Step forward for Dunkerrin NS extension plans

Deputy John Clendennen has warmly welcomed the announcement by the Department of Education and Youth confirming the approval to proceed to tender for the Additional School Accommodation project at Scoil Mhuire Bainrioghan, Dunkerrin. The confirmation was issued on Tuesday by Minister Hildegarde Naughton.

The project at Dunkerrin National School, delivered under the devolved mechanism of the Additional School Accommodation Scheme, will see the school benefit from an extension incorporating a Special Education classroom. This development represents a meaningful and long-awaited improvement to the school's facilities.

Deputy Clendennen stated: "I am delighted for everyone at Dunkerrin National School; the students, the families, and the entire school community. This new Special Education classroom will make a real and lasting difference to the quality of education and support available at the school."

The Deputy paid particular tribute to those within the school who have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition.

"I want to acknowledge the enormous effort that has gone into reaching this milestone. Principal Simone Mitchell, the board of management, and the entire staff have shown tremendous dedication in pursuing additional facilities for their students, and this approval is a direct reflection of that commitment."

Deputy Clendennen has maintained a close interest in the progression of this project, having visited the school and engaged directly with Minister Naughton on a number of occasions to press for its advancement. He expressed his appreciation for the Minister's engagement throughout the process.

"I am grateful to Minister Naughton for her collaboration and responsiveness in progressing this project. Working together on issues like this is exactly how we deliver real improvements for communities across Offaly."

"While today is a day to celebrate for Dunkerrin National School, I remain aware that there are further projects across the county still awaiting progress. I will keep working to ensure that every school in Offaly gets the facilities it needs and deserves," concluded Deputy Clendennen.
