Amateur champion Grehan returns for European Team Championships

Fresh from his weekend Amateur Championship success, Tullamore golfer Stuart Grehan will lead the Irish men’s golf team for the European Amateur Team Championships in Estonia next month.

The 33-year-old claimed a stunning victory at Royal Liverpool on Saturday when he defeated Matt Moloney (USA) in the final to become the 131st Amateur Champion.

Grehan will now play in The Open at Royal Birkdale next month, while he also receives an invite to the US Masters and the US Open in 2027.

The County Louth club golfer will look to maintain his fine form at Estonian Golf & Country Club, as Ireland continue with the same selection that managed a fourth-place finish in Killarney last year.

Meanwhile, Rahan golfer Ella Cantwell has been selected on the Irish girls' team for the European championships which tees off in on July 7.

Following her success at the West of Ireland Women’s Amateur Open Championship at the end of May, the Esker Hills club golfer is now placed second on the Bridgestone Women’s Order of Merit.

Cantwell will be joined on the team by Hannah Lee-McNamara (Royal Portrush), Zoe McLean-Tattan (Romford), Kayleigh Mulholland (Royal Portrush), Jessica Reynolds (Co Sligo) and Emma Vinarcik (Tralee) for the trip to Golf & Country Club Zurich in Switzerland.
