Profile of a parkrunner: Meet Daingean's Enda Scully

Meet Enda Scully, from Daingean, as he prepares to complete his 200th parkrun at Mountlucas parkrun.

When did you first complete a parkrun?

My first parkrun was September 2017. I started because my wife Mary and son Owen Óg had joined a short time before and FOMO (fear of missing out) had set in! Also it was a good way of getting away from the shop for a few hours.

What is your favourite thing about parkrun?

My favourite thing about parkrun is the people you meet every week. It is a lovely way to start Saturday morning and once you are home and showered you feel great.

How does it feel to be about to complete your 200th parkrun?

It's a mad thought really, to think I have ran almost 1,000km around Mountlucas windfarm on Saturday mornings. It's a lovely place to go for a run by yourself or a walk with the dogs at any time; so peaceful and quiet.

What is your favourite parkrun memory?

My favourite parkrun memory is actually from a November morning on Inch beach in Kerry, that fairly blew the cobwebs from the night before, miles out into the Atlantic ocean. As for Mountlucas parkrun, every one of them are memorable.

What words would you use to describe Mountlucas parkrun?

Inclusive, organic and torture. Because everyone is made feel welcome, you have nature all around you , and no matter how fast or slow you go you ask yourself why you put yourself through this when you could be having a lie in. Once done you always feel better and forget about any torture!

Mountlucas parkrun takes place at Bord na Móna Mountlucas windfarm every Saturday morning at 9.30am sharp.

There's something for everyone at Mountlucas parkrun whether you want to walk, run, volunteer or just meet new people.
