Offaly groups share over €186,000 in enhancement funding
A total of 73 community and voluntary organisations in Offaly are to benefit to the tune of over €186,000 in funding announced under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP).
Amongst the main community and voluntary organisations to receive funding in the county are the Kinnitty Community Playground who received €6,000 and Tullamore Women's Shed who were allocated €5,000.
A sum of €5,000 was allocated to Clara Musical Society, €4,000 awarded to Killoyghey Community Centre, while Birr Boxing Club received €3,500.
Amounts distributed to community groups and voluntary organisations in Offaly varied from €500 to €6,000.
The funding announcement was welcomed by Fianna Fáil TD for Offaly, Tony McCormack, who pointed out that the Local Enhancement Programme provides capital supports that are essential for many small community groups and organisations.
"Strong communities are built by ordinary people doing extraordinary things every day. Across Offaly, volunteers give up their evenings, weekends and free time simply because they care about their neighbours and want to make their communities better places to live."
"Our volunteers give so much and ask for so little in return. While no amount of funding can ever repay their commitment, it is wonderful to see Government recognising their contribution and helping them continue the fantastic work they do in communities across Offaly," Deputy McCormack said.
His sentiments were echoed by Fine Gael Dáil representative, Deputy John Clendennen who said the approval of the small grants "will go a long way to support the fantastic work being done on the ground in Offaly".
"Whether it is funding for minor renovations, purchasing essential equipment for maintaining public areas, or upgrading IT facilities, this support will make a real difference," the Deputy said.
The LEP 2026 will provide €7 million in capital funding nationally, supporting more than 4,100 projects across the country.
The programme assists community and voluntary groups, particularly those operating in disadvantaged urban and rural areas, through funding for equipment purchases, minor building improvements and facility upgrades.
