Council shocked at discovery of dead sheep remains
Offaly County Council has expressed condemnation at the 'unacceptable' recent discovery of the remains of two sheep along the Grand Canal at Monasteroris, outside Edenderry.
When posting images of the deceased sheep on its social media platforms, the council included a content warning advising that the post referenced an incident involving animal harm.
In a statement about the incident, the council said: 'Our environment team responded to a deeply concerning incident along the greenway, where the remains of two sheep were discovered. This is the third occurrence at this location and no identification tags were present. This type of activity is extremely distressing and unacceptable'.
The council asked that anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or has any information about the incident to contact environment@offalycoco.ie or (057) 9346800.
It said that people can provide information anonymously, if they so wish.
'Every piece of information helps. Let’s work together to protect our community and environment,' the council statement concluded.
