Clara Town FC announces opening date for new astro turf facilities

Clara Town FC has announced the official opening date for its impressive new astro turf facilities.

Around this time last year, the club was given approval by Offaly County Council planners for the development of a 66 x 96 metre astro turf pitch and a 750 metre walking track at their premises at Stanley O'Hara Park, Lissanisky, on the outskirts of the town.

The club was also given approval for a a 1.2 metre high galvanised fence; LED floodlight system to both the walking track and the pitch, and all associated site works and drainage.

Now, the club has announced on its social media pages that the facilities will soon be open, with a day of football and festivities planned at its grounds on Saturday, August 2.

Included in the day's activities will be a mini-greenfield league, the Kieran Coyne memorial game, face painting, bouncy castle, local music and BBQ. The club said that events will start at 12.30pm and further details will follow in due course.

Clara Town FC was established in 1966, making it one of the oldest soccer clubs in Offaly. In what was a major coup for the club they purchased and developed their own club grounds at Lissanisky in 1999 and have been gradually improving their facilities since then.
