Mountbolus paracyclist named on Irish team for World Championships

Mountbolus cyclist Sinéad Greenan is one of twelve paracyclists who will represent Ireland at the 2026 UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, this September.

Greenan, who is visually impaired, and her partner, Paris 2024 Olympian Alice Sharpe, will hope to add to their medal haul in the road race and time trial events at the Championships following their success at the World Cup and European Championships.

The pair made their European Championship debut at the Road Championships in Maniago and Montereale Valcellina, Italy, where they achieved a silver medal in the Women's B race, following a fourth place in the Women's B time trial.

The silver medal complemented the pair's podium finish at the 2026 Para Cycling Road World Cup in Gistel, Belgium, when they achieved bronze medals.

Competitive action at the World Championships will start on September 4 with Irish paracycling coach Jamie Blanchfield saying the team reflects the "depth, experience and continued progress of the programme’s pathway".

"The World Championships are one of the key events of the year and provide an important opportunity to benchmark ourselves against the strongest international competition.

"We’ve seen encouraging performances across the World Cups and European Championships this season, and we’re looking forward to seeing the team build on that momentum, deliver strong performances and continue gaining valuable experience as we progress through this paralympic cycle," the Irish coach said.
