Rising Offaly golfer has outstanding finish at world juniors

Tullamore youngster Sophie Duffy proved her outstanding promise on the golf course with a memorable high-ranking finish at the recent three-day U14 'Champion of Champions' World Junior Championships in Lough Erne.

Sophie, who represents Esker Hills Golf Club, finished third in a field that comprised the finest 13 and 14 year-old golfers from across the globe, including its winner, Larissa Ruby Lang from Germany.

A student at Tullamore College, Sophie, whose parents are Sandra and Joe, has been playing golf for seven years and is part of the Golf Ireland development squad. She practises four times a week and was only narrowly pipped to second place by Scotland's Tarah Simpson. Sophie achieved her latest golfing feat competing in a playing field of 250 golfers.
