There's less than six weeks to go until the National Ploughing Championships return to Screggan, Tullamore, for the second consecutive year.

This year's event is being held on September 15-17, and in an update this morning (Thursday), the National Ploughing Association reported that site preparations are progressing well.

"Preparations are gathering pace in Screggan, with trackway, plumbing and electrical works well underway," the association said.

"The countdown is on to the 95th National Ploughing Championships! Stay tuned as the site continues to take shape."

Earlier this week it was announced that Certa will once again be a sponsor and fuel partner of the National Ploughing Championships.

Throughout the three days of the National Ploughing Championships, Certa will supply renewable hydrotreated vegetable oil to help power the event, including fuelling the site's generators and lighting towers.

Managing Director of the National Ploughing Association, Anna May McHugh, said: "We're delighted to continue our partnership with Certa as our sponsor and fuel partner for the National Ploughing Championships.

"Their commitment to supplying renewable fuel supports our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the event, while providing the reliable energy needed to power the National Ploughing Championships."

Last year, a crowd of 225,500 was in attendance over the three days of the Ploughing at Screggan.

This weekend's Tullamore Show, followed by next month's Ploughing, means Offaly will be the key destination for Ireland's agricultural sector over the weeks ahead.
