Fine Gael backing Offaly agriculture at Tullamore Show
The Tullamore Show is one of the highlights of the farming calendar and an event that showcases everything that is great about Irish agriculture. It brings together farmers, families, businesses and rural communities from across the country and provides an important opportunity to celebrate a sector that is at the heart of Offaly’s economy and identity.
For the Fine Gael team in Offaly, led by John Clendennen TD alongside Councillors Noel Cribbin, Liam Quinn, Neil Feighery, Hughie Egan and Eleanor Clendennen, the show is much more than an annual event.
It is an opportunity to meet farmers, listen to their concerns and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing rural Ireland.
The importance of the Tullamore Show is reflected in the regular attendance of Fine Gael leader Simon Harris, who has consistently supported this outstanding event and recognised the vital contribution of farming to our economy and rural communities. This year, Fine Gael in Offaly are especially pleased to welcome Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, who will officially open the show, highlighting its national significance.
Fine Gael said it continues to deliver practical support for Irish agriculture. Over the past year it secured €158 million for a new TB Action Programme, provided €6.5 million in funding for 94 animal welfare charities, invested €100 million through the Fuel Support Scheme and continued strong investment in TAMS 3.
It has also secured the Nitrates Derogation until 2028, announced €37.5 million for agri-food and bioeconomy research, while Ireland’s agri-food sector achieved record exports of €20.8 billion. More than 53,000 farmers have also benefited through the ACRES scheme, supporting both farm incomes and environmental improvements.
These are practical measures that are making a real difference for farm families today while helping to build a stronger, more sustainable future for Irish agriculture.
Looking ahead, Fine Gael said it remains committed to ensuring farmers are at the centre of agricultural policy and will continue to advocate for practical supports, reduced bureaucracy, stronger investment in young farmers and a Common Agricultural Policy that delivers certainty for family farms and rural communities.
Offaly’s farmers have always demonstrated innovation, resilience and a commitment to producing world-class food while caring for our countryside. As a team, Fine Gael in Offaly said it would continue to champion their interests at local, national and European level, ensuring farming remains a vibrant and sustainable part of the county and country.
