Offaly traditional musicians recognised at All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil

Traditional Irish musicians and singers from County Offaly were recognised for their respective talents in numerous competition categories at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast at the weekend.

Numerous competitors from the county earned podium places at the annually held festival celebrating traditional Irish music, song, dance, and culture.

Representing Ballyboy CCÉ, Luke Guinan claimed the All-Ireland concertina award in the 12-15 age category and he added a silver medal to his collection when placing second, alongside Harry Buckley and Jacob Devine in the concertina trio competition in the same age category.

Fiadhna Leamy impressed the judges to win the melodeon competition for Ballyboy CCÉ in the 15-18 age category and Alice Molloy, also representing Ballyboy CCÉ, placed third in the English ladies competition for competitors aged 12-15.

Ballyboy CCÉ members also claimed a number of third placings in their respective categories.

James Hyland received a bronze medal in the 12-15 age category of the button accordion competition, while Katie Lambe and Síomha Leamy achieved the same accolade in the U12 duets category.

Luke Meagher achieved two third place awards at the All-Ireland Fleadh. Firstly, he won a bronze medal in the senior English singing competition and complemented this achievement with a similar award in the senior flute slow airs category.

There was additional competition recognition for a number of CCÉ groups from within the county.

Representing Craobh Chuilinn CCÉ in Kinnitty, Sarah Gath was awarded the silver medal in the U12 category of the whistle slow airs category.

Edenderry CCÉ were represented on the winner's podium by Ademar O'Connor who was placed third in the senior button accordion competition.

Completing the medal haul for County Offaly at the Fleadh Cheoil was Geraldine McGarrigle from Rahan CCÉ who won a bronze medal in the newly composed songs in English competition.
