Daingean Development Association to host two heritage trail walks

The Daingean Development Association will host two trail walks of the town to mark National Heritage Week.

The first heritage walk takes place this evening (Tuesday, August 18) from 6.45pm-8.15pm. Sunday will see the hosting of the second heritage walk from 1pm-2.30pm.

Both walks depart from the Town Hall Daingean and participants will be taken on a guided walk of the historical town, from the plantation of lands and the creation of Kings County and Philipstown in 1556 to its renaming back to Daingean at the foundation of the state in 1922.

Daingean has a Methodist meeting house or church that survives to this day, built in 1820.

Details of the courthouse will also be delivered, with a unique opportunity to sit in the judges chair in the court room.

The reformatory, Wesley boarding school and canal store will also feature on the 90 minute walk.
