Tullamore gears up for unforgettable September

Tullamore is set to deliver an unforgettable September packed with exciting events, vibrant entertainment, and unique experiences, offering something for visitors of all ages and interests.

Experience Europe’s largest organised supercar road trip, Cannonball Run, and stay for family-friendly attractions including the National Ploughing Championships and arts and culture activities. The town is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors throughout the month.

The festivities begin on Friday, September 11, with a fantastic programme of family-friendly entertainment across Tullamore. The spectacular Cannonball Run will roar into town, bringing colour, energy and excitement to the town centre as the country’s most exciting supercar event arrives. Visitors can also enjoy free live music in O’Connor Square, including a busking competition proudly sponsored by Tullamore Credit Union, with categories for both Under 16s and Over 16s. Aspiring performers are encouraged to enter via the Tullamore Chamber website (tullamorechamber.com). The pre-event celebrations will also feature free face painting, hair braiding and plenty of other activities for all ages, creating a vibrant atmosphere for visitors and locals alike. On Saturday, September 12, families, comic enthusiasts, and pop-culture fans can enjoy Comic Con at Tullamore Library, followed once again by free live entertainment in O’Connor Square, ensuring a fun-filled day for all generations.

The spotlight then turns to the internationally renowned National Ploughing Championships, taking place from September 15-17. As one of Europe’s largest outdoor events, the Championships attract hundreds of thousands of visitors and place the Midlands at the heart of Irish agricultural, business and community life. Tullamore serves as an ideal base for attendees, offering excellent hospitality, accommodation, and transport links.

The month concludes in style on Friday, September 18, with a packed programme of Culture Night events across the town. Audiences can enjoy performances including “Midlands Rock: Battle of the Bands” and “Hub and Dubh” at John Lee’s Bar and Venue, while St. Mary’s Youth Centre hosts “Culture agus Craic 2.” Esker Arts will present an exciting range of cultural experiences including “Night at the Museum,” “Vixens of Éire,” and “Ancestral Echoes and Streetwise Steps.”

Speaking about the programme, Paul McLoughlin, Director of Services at Offaly County Council, outlined that “September promises to be one of the most exciting months of the year in Tullamore. The range of events reflects the vibrancy, creativity, and welcoming spirit of our town. Whether your interests lie in music, culture, family activities, motoring or agriculture, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming visitors from across Ireland and beyond.” For those looking to extend their stay, visitors should consider “a trip on the grand canal greenway. The route is suitable for all levels of cyclists and walkers, with bike hire available along the route in Ballycommon and Lough Boora Discovery Park” added Paul.
