Tullamore group pays tribute to Dolly Parton ahead of '9 to 5: The Musical' performance
The Tullamore-based St Mary's Youth and Community Centre has paid tribute to late musical icon Dolly Parton, as the group prepares to perform 9 to 5: The Musical.
The singer-songwriter died at the age of 80 at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville surrounded by loved ones, after a short battle with cancer.
In a statement, St Mary's Youth and Community Centre described Dolly as "one of the greatest entertainers, songwriters and philanthropists the world has ever known".
"Dolly brought so much joy to generations through her music, her incredible talent and her unmistakable personality. But beyond the music, her generosity and commitment to children left an incredible legacy.
"Through her Imagination Library, millions of children around the world have received free books, helping to inspire a love of reading and learning."
St Mary's Youth & Community Centre are set to stage 9 to 5: The Musical from Thursday, September 3, to Saturday, September 5.
"Our production may now become our own little tribute to Dolly. Her music, her humour, her strength and her belief in giving young people opportunities are values that mean a great deal to us here at the Centre. Come with us as we celebrate the music of a woman who gave so much to the world."
