Mike Solan appointed Offaly senior football manager
Mike Solan has been appointed as the new manager of the Offaly senior football team on a three-year term.
Offaly GAA confirmed the appointment of the Mayo native following a specially convened meeting of the management committee on Wednesday afternoon.
Solan will be joined by coaches Joe Keane and Nigel Dunne with the remainder of the management team to be appointed in the coming weeks.
The former Longford senior football manager replaces the management pair of Declan Kelly and Mickey Harte who departed the role following Offaly's Tailteann Cup semi-final defeat to Wicklow in July.
Solan served as coach to the Mayo U21 team in 2015 before taking over as manager in October of that year, a role he held until 2020. During this time, Mayo won two provincial titles, in 2016 and 2018, as well as the All-Ireland U21 title in 2016.
He subsequently worked as assistant manager under current Mayo manager Andy Moran with the Leitrim senior football team for two seasons.
He was the Longford manager for the past two seasons, successfully achieving National Football League from Division 4 to Division 3 promotion with the Midlands county this season.
Former Offaly senior football Nigel Dunne joins Solan on the management team.
The current Shamrocks manager brings an extensive playing and coaching experience to the role having served as head coach with the Offaly minor footballers in 2025, guiding them to their first Leinster Championship title in 36 years. In 2026, he worked as head coach of the Offaly U20 footballers.
Fellow Mayo native, Joe Keane, has also been appointed to work alongside Solan as part of the management team.
Keane worked with Solan as head coach of the Mayo U21 team in 2016 and 2017, achieving both provincial and All-Ireland success, before joining the Mayo senior team under Stephen Rochford’s management.
Keane joined Mike and the Longford management team as head coach for the 2025 season and was a key part of the team that achieved promotion.
