Design team appointed for Edenderry swimming pool plan

Offaly County Council has signed a contract with a design team for the new swimming pool project in Edenderry.

Offaly County Council (OCC) is proposing the development of a new competition standard swimming pool facility and fitness centre in Edenderry. This facility aims to be one of the premier facilities in the region, serving not only counties Offaly, Westmeath, and Kildare but also beyond, providing a state-of-the-art swimming facility at both national and international levels.

Following a procurement process, McAdam Design Ltd has been appointed to provide architect-led integrated design team consultancy service for the project.

The chosen site for the pool is located within the newly developed Blundell masterplan, and the new pool site is to be within a 400m walking distance from the centre of town and key amenity areas.

The site is owned by Offaly County Council having been purchased from the OPW.

In consultation with Offaly County Council, McAdam Design Ltd will engage and consult with residents, communities and businesses throughout the design process of the swimming pool over the coming months.

Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council Cllr Declan Harvey commented: “Signing this contract marks the official start of the design process. This project is a substantial investment that will have a lasting impact on Edenderry’s future. The new Community swimming pool will provide high-quality, modern facilities, and greatly enhance the town’s attractiveness as a place to live, work, and visit.”

Deputy Chief Executive of Offaly County Council Andrew Murray said: “I am delighted to see this contract officially signed and we will look forward to working with McAdam design Ltd to deliver this project, the allocation of funding as part of the Large-Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) is significant in delivering this project, and I would like to acknowledge the support of the Minister, the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, the existing Edenderry Swimming Pool Committee, Offaly County Council Regeneration and Municipal District staff for their efforts with this project to date.”
