Early season derby looms for Offaly soccer clubs

An Offaly derby is among the highlights of the week's fixtures as early-season fare continues in the Combined Counties Football League.

Next Wednesday (September 16), Clara Town will kick-off their Senior Division campaign when hosting Durrow-based Coolraine FC at Stanley O'Hara Park (7.30pm).

Coolraine's top-flight season began last weekend when they were beaten at home, 2-4, against Monksland Utd (Athlone). Coolraine will also be in action this coming weekend when they travel to Mount Temple, Athlone to take on Temple Villa (TP Hickey Park, 11am).

Clara Town's youth team, meanwhile, will also be taking the field this Saturday as they face Willow Park in the opening round of the FAI Youth Cup (DPD Park, Athlone, 2.30pm). Other local clubs still awaiting their first fixtures of the senior season include Division 1 sides Birr Town, Gallen Utd, Highfield Utd and Tullamore Town, as well as Killeigh FC in Division 2.
