Dunne retains strong position in F2 Championship

Offaly racing driver Alex Dunne has retained his fourth place standing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship despite finishing outside the podium positions in Monza at the weekend.

The Clonbollogue native placed sixth in the feature race at the Italian track on Sunday, a lengthy issue during his mandatory pit stop costing him valuable momentum.

On Saturday, a seventh placed finish in the sprint race saw Dunne add to his championship points total with just four races remaining in the F2 calendar season.

Dunne is now 59 points adrift of championship leader Nikola Tsolov as he looks towards this weekend's F2 grand prix in Madrid.

The Rodin Motorsport driver will aim to cut that points deficit when he takes to the grid for the feature race on the Madring circuit at 11.25am on Sunday.
