Global Solidarity Hub to bring music, art and virtual reality to Ploughing

Music, art and interactive displays will explore climate change, farming, food security and inequality at the Global Solidarity Hub at this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, county Offaly.

The Global Solidarity Hub will bring together GOAL, Trócaire, Concern Worldwide, Dóchas, Self Help Africa, Sightsavers Ireland, Brighter Communities Worldwide and Christian Aid Ireland at Block 4, Row 29, Stand 567.

Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora Neale Richmond TD will officially open the Hub on Tuesday, September 15.

Visitors can take part in activities ranging from virtual reality experiences and food-themed games to exhibitions and demonstrations. The organisations will highlight the challenges facing farmers and communities in Ireland and countries including Uganda and Kenya.

Live music and dancing will also feature, with performances from Justine Nantale, Segun Akano and Tura Arutura.

Speaking ahead of the ploughing, Dóchas CEO Jane-Ann McKenna said: “The Hub will be three days full of interactive exhibitions and live performances.

"The activities on show will inspire, question and challenge people’s perceptions about some of the biggest issues facing the world today, like conflict, hunger and sustainable development. We are delighted to have Minister Neale Richmond open it.

"At a time of growing global instability, weakening multilateralism and climate chaos, the world needs leadership from countries known for their credibility, consistency, and ability to build trust. It is vitally important to showcase the life-saving work being done by Irish humanitarian and development organisations on the ground.”
