'Biodiversity and a Brew' event held in Tullamore

On Wednesday last, September 9, Offaly Climate and Biodiversity Action Group hosted a free event entitled "Biodiversity and a Brew".

Tom Artisan's Café, Main Street, Tullamore, kindly opened late to facilitate the event.

Over a warming cuppa, participants shared their ideas and concerns about protecting and enjoying nature, limiting waste and pollution, and the importance of community. The atmosphere was relaxed and encouraging.

Paul Houlihan from Cherry Laurel Action Group explained why the cherry laurel is now classified as an invasive plant in Ireland, and the progress this group is making in tackling cherry laurels in local forests.

Sean Hynes, from the newly formed Tullamore Community Garden committee, presented the aims of the Community Garden, for which land is currently being sought.

Members of the successful Edenderry Community Garden were in attendance, as well as members of the very active Tullamore Tidy Towns committee.

Offaly Climate and Biodiversity Action Group is aiming to connect with groups and individuals all over the county to promote a more sustainable Offaly through action and information. The group's AGM is being held on Tuesday, October 6, at 7pm in St Mary’s Community Centre, Harbour Street, Tullamore.
