Community invited to annual James O’Connor memorial walk
Accessible Counselling Tullamore is inviting the community to join the annual James O’Connor memorial walk at Tullamore Harriers on Friday, October 9.
The free event, held in memory of ACT co-founder James O’Connor, will commence at 5pm and run until 9pm.
According to ACT, the walk has become a very special event and a great family evening, bringing people together to show support for better mental health in the community. The walk will also mark the end of this year’s 'Offaly Goes Green' initiative, as part of the National Green Ribbon Campaign.
ACT said that people interested in the event do not have to register beforehand.
'For anyone who would like to support the work of ACT, there will be an opportunity to make a voluntary donation at the gate', ACT said.
There will be food and drink vendors at the event, as well as face-painting and goodie bags for children, and a visit from Hilltop Farm Alpacas. Pets are also welcome on the walk.
In the lead-up to the walk, ACT is encouraging businesses, schools, clubs and community groups across Offaly to get behind 'Offaly Goes Green' by wearing the ribbon, turning premises green, and 'helping to keep people talking about mental health'.
ACT co-founder Lisa O’Connor said: “The walk is always such a special evening for us and has grown into a lovely family and community event. We would love to see a huge crowd again this year. Please come along, bring the family, bring the dogs, and walk with us. Whether you knew James or not, everyone is very welcome.”
