Positive Ageing Week to be celebrated at Offaly Libraries
Positive Ageing Week 2026, which celebrates ageing and the contribution and agency of older people, will take place at Offaly Libraries from September 25 to October 2.
The week-long event happens annually and aims to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about ageing and to highlight the positivity and vitality of older age.
Offaly Libraries will celebrate Positive Ageing Week with a number of activities during the week long event.
* Mindfulness and breathwork sessions in Tullamore and Edenderry libraries
* LOETB Community Education Acrylic Art Workshops will be available in Birr, Clara Edenderry and Tullamore libraries
* Needle felting workshops with Pauline McNelis will be available in Banagher, Daingean, Ferbane and Kilcormac libraries
* Water colour canvas painting workshop in Edenderry library
* Presentation on walking the Camino in Clara library
* Inter-generational table quiz in Clara library.
* Bridging Generations Through Robotics in Tullamore Library. A fun-filled inter-generational programme where grandparents and grandchildren come together to build VEX robots!
* Digital information session at Clara, Birr and Tullamore libraries
* Offaly County Council Choir will perform a lunchtime concert in Tullamore library.
* The Chorus Connection Community Choir will be performing a special programme to celebrate Positive Ageing Week in Tullamore library
* Open Mic Evening with Wordsmiths Writing Group in Tullamore library
* Tullamore Gramophone Society will perform a lunchtime concert in Tullamore library
* Inter-generational storytime and Teddy Bears picnic in Tullamore library
* Irish conversation and table quiz in Tullamore, Birr, Clara and Edenderry libraries
* Inter-generational arts & crafts in Clara, Kilcormac and Tullamore libraries
* Classic movie morning in Birr, Daingean and Kilcormac libraries
* Mindful colouring and goard Games will be available in all libraries through Positive Ageing Week
All libraries will host coffee mornings and will have a display featuring Age Friendly information for the public to peruse.
