Baku bliss as Dunne claims F2 Championship win

Offaly racing driver Alex Dunne has claimed his first win of the FIA Formula 2 season this afternoon (Friday) at the Baku Grand Prix.

The first of two feature races taking place at the Azerbaijan track, Dunne started the race on pole position and asserted his race superiority with ten laps remaining to claim victory. Dunne is now placed third in the championship standings following today's success.

The Clonbollogue native's maiden win of the FIA F2 Grand Prix season arrives at a crucial stage of the 2026 Championship.

The victory leaves the Rodin Motorsport driver just eight points adrift of championship leader, Rafael Camara of Brazil and seven points behind Bulgaria's Nikola Tsolov with just five races left in the season.

This was a long awaited chequered flag win for Dunne, who has recorded four second place finishes and three third place finishes over the course of the season.

Speaking at the FIA Formula 2 post race press conference, Dunne said he was it was a "fantastic day".

"Super, super happy! I feel like it's been forever since I last won a race so to do it in the fashion today is the cherry on top," Dunne said.

Dunne returns to Grand Prix action for the second feature race on the Azerbaijan track tomorrow morning (Saturday).
