German artist returns to Offaly with 'Peatlands' exhibition created in collaboration with locals
German artist Katja Striedelmeyer is returning to Offaly with her exhibition Peatlands: Peat Stories Vol. 1, which was created through collaboration with local people.
The exhibition will go on display in Kilcormac Community Centre on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm, and will run until Sunday, October 25.
Developed through Katja's collaboration with local people, the exhibition brings together stories, memories and experiences of Ireland's peatlands, creating a meaningful cultural exchange between Kilcormac, Germany and wider Europe.
The film will be presented as a media art installation, accompanied with objects from the visited bogs, as well as gifts that received by Katja including distilled scents from peat and bog plants.
There will be two audio works presented, created from the interviews completed during the research.
The exhibition forms part of Offaly's cultural programme celebrating Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The work was developed during an artistic residency at the Burren College of Art in Co. Clare, supported by Culture Moves Europe and the European Union.
