Councillor worried about road traffic issues at Tullamore housing estate
An Offaly councillor has expressed concerns about speeding cars in the Chancery Park area of Tullamore.
Cllr Aoife Masterson said she has been contacted by 'many residents' lately in relation to a number of 'near misses' at the small roundabout at the estate/ .
Cllr Masterson said the concerned residents are also worried about 'speeding cars and the danger to young children'.
In relation to the estate's small roundabout, she said: “I have asked Offaly County Council for more signage and better road markings, including rumble strips. These are small ridges across the road that warn drivers to slow down. I’m delighted to say the council has agreed to them, and I’ll be watching closely once they are in use to see if they make the roundabout safer.”
She noted that more cars are cutting through Chancery Park to 'avoid the traffic at the school and Church Road'.
“I have asked the council for signage and a review of the traffic volume and speed. I cannot promise this will lead to traffic calming measures, but I won’t let it go until the problem is addressed - whatever solution is needed,” said the Sinn Féin councillor.
