Birr to host double header of Offaly camogie finals

Two years after St Cillian’s made their historic breakthrough and won a first ever Offaly senior title, beating Birr by five points, they’re back in St Brendan’s Park for another final, this time against Shinrone (Sunday, St Brendan's Park, 3.30pm).

On paper there is very little to separate the two sides, though St Cillian’s will take no small amount of heart from how their semi-final win over 2025 champions Birr was probably their best performance of the year so far.

Shinrone didn’t do much wrong against Drumcullen either but their win involved a considerable element of attacking the relative lack of depth in the Drumcullen side, and that vulnerability won’t be there in a St Cillian’s team that looks particularly strong at defence and midfield.

Shinrone too are arguably stronger on their own side of the ball so expect a low scoring contest, and one in which Shinrone have maybe a point or two to find on the league winners, but no more than that.

The preceding Senior B final (1.30pm) looks a little bit more clear cut as Kilcormac-Killoughey have continued to make positive strides this year, with more and more of the players from their 2023 and 2024 minor championship winning sides starting to look at home at adult level.

Tullamore’s win over St Rynagh’s was certainly a shock on paper, but repeating the trick in the curtain raiser fixture is a big ask for the county town club.
