Councillor Aoife Masterson.

Repair works due soon for Clontarf Road footpath

Repairs to the condition of the footpath at Clontarf Road, Tullamore are due to be carried out before the end of November, according to a local councillor.

Sinn Féin councillor Aoife Masterson said that she has been in 'extensive engagement' with Offaly County Council regarding the matter, and that she has now been informed that the works will soon take place.

'Numerous residents have contacted me concerned about the condition of the footpath on Clontarf Road. After extensive engagement with the Council, I have secured a commitment that the necessary repairs will be carried out before the end of November.

While this is subject to operational requirements and weather, I will be working hard to ensure this timeline is held', she said.

On her social media platforms, Cllr Masterson also addressed some concerns regarding anti-social behaviour at the same location.

'I have been in contact with the Gardaí about concerns of anti-social behaviour in the area. In recent months, a permanent high visibility policing unit has become operational in Tullamore, focused specifically on public order, drug dealing and anti-social behaviour across the town. I have engaged with this unit regarding the issue and, along with our community Gardaí, they are now a regular presence on Clontarf Road. If you see anything of concern, please report it to the Gardaí and let me know too', she said.

Further to Clontarf Road, Cllr Masterson said she has also been working 'for some time' on addressing traffic issues there.

'I am pleased to confirm that, in June, the council’s new Traffic Calming Policy came into effect. This is something I have worked hard on for a long time, as it finally sets out clear criteria for when traffic calming can be progressed. I was anxious to ensure Clontarf Road was one of the first roads assessed. For this reason, I requested traffic loggers be put down in May, ahead of the policy. These loggers record the number and speed of vehicles using the road. Because this work was done in advance, Clontarf Road is now one of the first roads to be assessed under this new policy. I will continue to work hard on this and keep people updated as this progresses', she said.
