"End of an era" as Clara business announces death of co-founder Mary Rabbitte

A long-established Clara hardware business has this afternoon (Thursday) announced the sad passing of its co-founder, Mary Rabbitte.

Rabbitte's hardware, which is part of the Expert Hardware group, said Mary established the business with her late husband Jimmy in 1960s and has been a well-known figure in the Clara community for generations.

"Mary’s dedication and hard work helped keep the family business going throughout the years, leaving behind a lasting legacy," said Rabbitte's in a social media post.

"As we say goodbye to Mary, we truly mark the end of an era."

It added that, as a mark of respect, Rabbitte’s hardware will be closed for "the next few days".

Since the announcement of her passing this afternoon, affectionate tributes to Mary have been pouring in, with locals describing her as "a great community person" and "a wonderful lady with a kind heart".

Her funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
