Ex-Offaly guards promoted to rank of superintendent

A guard who was based in Offaly for 17 years of his career has this week been named among a number of Garda personnel promoted to the rank of superintendent. Declan Good left Offaly in 2007 after being based in three of the county's Garda stations. He began his career locally in Kilcormac garda station in 1991, before moving to Birr in 1994. He later moved to Tullamore in 1997 and remained there until his departure from Offaly five years ago. Prior to his promotion the Portlaoise native who now lives in Clonaslee worked as an assistant superintendent in Store Street garda station in Dublin. His promotion on Tuesday last, February 7, will now see him move to Dublin Metropolitan Region Traffic section of the force. The move means a departure from Store Street to Dublin Castle also, which is scheduled for February 21. Speaking to the Offaly Independent this week Supt Good said: "You put yourself forward for a position and it's great when you get it." He added that he's looking forward to his new role, which he says will be "a whole new challenge". Supt Good was one of 19 promoted to the rank of superintendent, with a further four promoted to the rank of detective superintendent. Inspector Joe Prendergast, who also served in this region, is also on the list of those taking the step to the rank of superintendent in the Kildare area.
