Donegan the winner of Gowran 8 mile race
The annual Gowran 8 mile race was run off on a wet and windy evening on Tuesday of last week. The Gowran trophy is awarded to the first Novice athlete to cross the line and this year's winner was the ever improving Jason Donegan who clocked 49 minutes. Second Novice man was Conor Mooney, and 3rd Novice Man was Liam Byrne. The 1st Novice Lady prize went to Mary Bracken, another athlete who has posted some fine times since joining the club last year. In 2nd Novice Lady position was Sinead Rigney and Olivia Grant another newcomer to the club, earned 3rd Novice Lady prize. Fastest overall time on the night was 45.40 for Catch Grennan, and fastest female was Michelle Mullaney (55.00). Daingean Festival 5k Road Race The Annual Daingean Festival 5km road race and fun run was held in Daingean, on Friday 3rd August. The race starts at the Edenderry end of the town and travels anti-clockwise down the main street, onto Church Road and then the 'Circular Road' back to the Edenderry Road. The four loops provide a tough challenge for runners to battle it out for places and positions in all categories and also provides a fine course for newcomers to experience the racing atmosphere. Twenty-four Tullamore Harriers members competed in the event and almost all came away with awards for their performances. First Harriers man home was Dave Fox who finished in 11th position in a very competitive field. The race was won by Edmund O'Neill (Tinyrland) in a time of 15.53, with Colm Burke (St Abban's) in 2nd place (16.02), and Ferbane AC athlete Paul Buckley in 3rd (16.05). First Lady finisher was Imelda Clarke (Na Fianna) in a time of 19.21, just ahead of our Michelle Mullaney (19.33), and Sinead Rigney (20.32) in 3rd place.
