Appeal over missing micro pig

A woman in Kilclonfert is appealing for the public’s help in finding her missing micro pig named Lucy.

Adela Meally is offering a reward for the return of the black micro pig which vanished from her home in the Kilclonfert, Barnaboy area of Daingean on Friday, January 9.

“I have searched for miles around and there is no sign of her. She is completely black and around two feet tall. I live in the Barnaboy/Kilclonfert, Daingean area in Co Offaly. I will gladly offer a reward to anyone with information as to her whereabouts,” Adela said.

She purchased Lucy and the pig’s sister Sheila about ten months ago. “Her sister Sheila misses her dearly and is starting to become agitated and anxious on her own,” Adela explained. Since the pig vanished, Adela, who fears the pig may have been stolen, has issued appeals over social media and on the local radio.

“The story seems to be gathering some momentum as I recieve on average three calls per day from strangers wishing me well in the search for my beloved pig,” she remarked.

Adela, whose fondness for pigs began when she was around five and she took on a piglet which a sow couldn’t feed. The pig was later named Porky and, “he grew up with the dog and was bottle fed and then he was house trained and he had his own teddy,” Adela recalled. When Porky got too big, her father told her he was sent away to a stud farm. “I just loved him,” she remarked.

Adela said Lucy, who eats “low fat pot belly nuts,” requires a lot of care and attention. Adela is convinced the pig is not in the Kilclonfert area as she has searched the area thoroughly. She believes Lucy would not survive alone outdoors in the current cold weather and she is very concerned for the pig’s welfare.

Adela thanked all of her neighbours and everyone who has helped to search for the pig. “Everyone has been great, I have people ringing me, random strangers, saying any sign of the pig? I am getting tons of calls,” she said.

Anyone who has seen Lucy or knows of her whereabouts can call Adela on 083 4025996.
