Edenderry native releases debut album
Edenderry native Brendan Glennon was celebrating recently when he finally got to release his debut album entitled ?The Final Bell.? The 57-year-old, who is one of ten children, first took up the guitar aged twelve, while at boarding school. It was there he met lifelong friend Christy Byrne. The pair wrote together and played the folk circuit in Dublin in the 70s and indeed it was the death of Christy Byrne that spurred on Glennon to complete and release the album. Following a chance meeting with producer Pat O?Donnell in early 2006, a musical collaboration was formed and the seeds of the album were sewn. O?Donnell had previously worked with the The Four of Us, Kieran Goss, Jimmy MacCarthy and The Devlin?s. On this record he set out to capture Brendan?s live studio performances and surround them with an atmospheric production. The songs on the album are written and co-written by Brendan, and he is joined by musicians, including guitarist Niall Lawlor, who has previously worked with Shane McGowan, amongst others. The album also features Tommy Kinsella on bass, Jimmy Kelly on banjo and John Hanney on drums. This is essentially a contemporary country record featuring Glennon?s from the heart vocals, surrounded by layers of bluegrass guitars and lush string arrangements. His song writing shows a diversity and maturity not usually found on a debut album and as a result some of the songs have already attracted the interest of some major publishers both in Ireland and America. Mr Glennon, a father of two, also works as a pharmacist in Glasthule in Co Dublin.
