Businessman hails quick council response after protest
Local businessman Oisin O'Sullivan is this week singing the praises of the local council. Last Thursday week Mr O'Sullivan chained himself to railings in the Tanyard for approximately 45 minutes to protest against difficulties he has experienced since construction works began on the new library. His protest was sparked after yet another lorry was unable to make a delivery to his furniture business, After intervention by Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council Danny Owens however Mr O'Sullivan said everything was rectified "within 24 hours". Speaking to the Offaly Independent on Thursday Mr O'Sullivan said his main problems were the one way system coming into the Tanyard and an additional footpath that had been added that made making deliveries to his business very difficult. Mr O'Sullivan said that overnight last Tuesday however the two-way system in and out of the Tanyard had been reinstated, the road tarmacadamed and one of the footpaths taken up, eliminating his problems. "It's unbelievable," he said. "I'm absolutely thrilled they responded so quickly." Though Mr O'Sulivan said there are still some forms of restriction in the area it's now "100% better" than it was. "Now you can get in and out of Tullamore," he said. "I'm delighted with the council."
