Curley and Kilmurray take on Daingean bainisteoir challenge
Pauline Curley’s Olympians are hoping they have what it takes to triumph over former Offaly manager Kevin Kilmurray’s All-Stars in a one-day Celebrity Bainisteoir event in Daingean this weekend.
The Daingean Community Centre fundraiser takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at Daingean GAA grounds, and organiser Paul Keating says the event with free admission will be a perfect day out for all the family.
The idea of adapting the Celebrity Bainisteoir formula for fundraising needs was hit on by the Daingean Community Centre group some months ago. With a lot of preparatory work done, all eyes are now on Saturday and the main event.
On the day Offaly Olympian Pauline Curley will lead out her team to face Kevin Kilmurray’s fearsome faction in a parade at 2pm before the game proper at 3pm. Prior to the main event there will be an underage blitz for the younger players of the area from noon.
Fundraising will be carried out via donations on Saturday, and has been garnered before the event via jersey sponsorship. Each panel has five players from Daingean’s GAA team, five who are aged 40 and over, five who are women and five from outside Offaly. Each player’s jersey has a main sponsor, and for €5 each 20 others get to write a message on each jersey.
On Saturday analysis and commentary will be provided by locals acting as well-known RTE analysts. The Mount Bolus Pipe Band will also add to the festival air, and a video of the game will be shown at 8pm that evening in Seery’s Bar. For more see DaingeanCommunity Centre on Facebook.
