The High Kings come to Offaly
Ireland's folk band of the year The High Kings are to play The Tullamore Court Hotel on December 6, after a successful show in the County Arms in Birr on November 22. The High Kings is musicians Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Martin Furey and Darren Holden. Coming from accomplished musical pedigrees, they each grew up in households soaked in the Irish musical tradition. Since forming, The High Kings have sold out hundreds of shows in Ireland and the US, been voted Best Folk Band for three years running, made numerous television appearances, performed for Irish President Mary McAleese and President Obama and achieved platinum status with their first two albums. The musical tradition of the Furey family goes back 200 years. Martin Furey is the son of renowned Irish piper and singer Finbar Furey and is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. Finbarr Clancy is the son of Bobby Clancy of The Clancy Brothers. Darren Holden began his career as a singer/songwriter and has toured the world with Riverdance. Brian Dunphy meanwhile is one of the Three Irish Tenors and the son of Sean Dunphy, a major showband era star.
