Daingean NS wins national essay awards
Two sixth class children from Daingean NS won awards for their entries in a national essay and letter writing competition. "The Grace Nolan 1,000 word Essay/Letter Competition" prize-giving took place in The Helix in Dublin last week. There was great excitement when the children of Daingean discovered that their school had two winners, Stephen Mooney and Sean Ferguson, whose winning letters were published in the 'Dear Grace' book. Niamh Jones was also recognised on the day, as she had a small part of her entry also published in the out-takes section of the book. The winners did not know who they were until they were called up on stage, Oscar Style, to be presented with a silver framed plaque and an MP3 player each by a famous celebrity. The boys also won a new computer for the school. The school also won the teaching award, a Galway Cyrstal Tropy. Congratulations to all the children who entered as they put in a lot of work and well done to the winners. There were 40,000 entries countrywide and thirty one schools had a winning entry.
