SHS awards Ashling Murphy Bursary to two former students
The Board of Management of the Sacred Heart School, Tullamore launched the Ashling Murphy Bursary in May of this year following a service for Ashling with Ashling’s family.
On Friday, December 16th last, the Chairman of the Board of Management, Jim Enright welcomed Ashling’s mother, Kathleen, and thanked for her helping the school to provide the means to associate Ashling’s name with all that she cherished; hard work, community and a sense of fun.
“We thought long and hard about what might constitute a fitting tribute from our school. We wanted it to be in keeping with her life here in the SHS, her wonderful legacy, “ Mr Enright said.
He noted that the successful recipients were students who were following in Ashling’s footsteps as their first love was primary teaching.
Jade O'Brien is studying in University of Limerick while Roisin Hughes is attending DCU. Both girls were selected on their comprehensive contribution to SHS school life and it was noted that both girls displayed the same generosity of spirit as Ashling.
It was also noted that the fundamental aim of the Board of Management was to ensure that going forward, and long after the lifetime of this board, that every student would know of Ashling and what she stood for; thus ensuring her memory would be enshrined forever in the SHS.
The Board heartily congratulated both Jade and Roisin and their parents and wished them every success in their future professional and personal lives.
