Pat Larkin announced as Parade Grand Marshal

Renowned local business man Pat Larkin will be the Grand Marshal of this year's Edenderry St Patrick's Day parade, it has been announced.

The parade is going ahead as normal at 2.30pm on St Patrick's Day, followed by music in O'Connell Square.

The committee said it is delighted to have Pat as Grand Marshal and looks forward to seeing him being honoured by the people of Edenderry this St. Patrick's Day

84-year-old Pat Larkin has left a significant legacy in the town.

Building on the work of his father, Pat, who started Larkin’s Central Bar in 1928, he opened his own pub in 1970, before launchign an undertaker's business in 1971 and then a funeral home in 1989

To this day, Pat still has an active role in the business, a family business that has been in operation in Edenderry for 95 years. There are people in Edenderry that have been served by all four generations of Patrick Larkin.

Pat is a huge lover of GAA, and won a Leinster Colleges medal with Ballyfin. He has also been involved with Meals on Wheels, The Lions Club and is a former Captain of Edenderry Golf Club.

Pat attended school in Edenderry and Ballyfin where he won a Leinster College Football Final and made it to the All Ireland Final.

Pat met his wife Staitia originally from Ballyboggin when she came to teach in the Boys School here in Edenderry. They have four children, Geraldine, Denise, Patrick and Sinead and five grand children Robyn, Finn, P, Sean and Sarah Michelle.
