Upcoming lecture on traditional architecture in Offaly

Offaly History Centre hosts a lecture on traditional architecture in Offaly on March 20 at 8pm next in-person and online.

The talk will be given by conservation architect Rachel McKenna, who is the author of 'Traditional Architecture in Offaly. History, Materials and Furniture 1800 to Present Day' (Offaly County Council, 2022).

The event will cover the recent publication and seek to illustrate the development of traditional architecture in Offaly, highlighting the craftsmanship involved in both the houses and their fittings.

It will consider the setting of dwellings in the landscape and look at plan types and materials used in their construction. Each of the three main rooms; kitchen, parlour and bedroom, will be studied along with their fixtures and fittings.

Rachel Mc Kenna is a Senior Executive Architect with Offaly County Council and an RIAI Grade 1 Conservation Architect. She is the author of 'Geashill: The Evolution of its Architecture' (2012) and 'Flights of Fancy. Follies, Families and Demesnes in Offaly' (2017).

This book was very well received and is expected to sell out soon. All are welcome.
