Top award for Clara charity shop

Vincent’s charity shop in Clara has won the Team of the Year Award in the St Vincent de Paul Mid West Region (Limerick, Clare, Offaly, Tipperary).

Dermot McGilloway said that Vincent’s Charity shops are deeply committed to the circular retailing model of reduce – reuse – recycle and to an energy efficient, low carbon, textile collection and processing service.

Centres are using Epos technology to extract the maximum value from every single clothing donation. SVP is also working closely with recycling partners to ensure that as many unsold garments as possible are reused or recycled,

“In a world that produces 1.6 times more waste than it can re-absorb, the old fashion industry linear model of “take – make – throw away” must end in favour of more environmentally friendly practices.

"The fashion industry is now one of the biggest polluters on the planet, generating more CO2 than the aviation and maritime industry combined. Nearly 100 billion garments are made annually, increasingly from synthetic non-biodegradable materials, and 92 million tonnes will end up in landfill each year,” Mr McGilloway commented.

He said that by donating pre-loved items to Vincent’s or updating your wardrobe from its extensive and affordable range of classy garments, you are helping to slow down the harmful effects of fast fashion and keep garments in circulation for longer.

“At Vincent’s, we support the circular economy and are committed to using our national network of shops and order fulfilment centres to promote the reuse of as many garments as we can for as long as we can,” he ended.
