Offaly windfarm secures contract in renewable electricity support scheme
An Offaly windfarm was one of only three to secure contracts in the latest round of Ireland’s renewable electricity support scheme.
SSE Renewables secured a 101MW contract for the Yellow River wind farm near Rhode in RESS 3, the third onshore renewable electricity support scheme by the Government.
RESS 3 uses a competitive auction process to determine which generators receive support. For projects that are successful in the RESS 3 auction, this support typically applies for approximately 15 years.
Construction started on the 29-turbine Yellow River Wind Farm in October 2022 with the expected completion date in 2024.
SSE Renewables said, once completed, the windfarm will be capable of generating enough green energy to power over 66,000 homes and offset over 70 million kg of carbon dioxide annually.
Meanwhile, a solar farm in Offaly was also successful in the auction. The Ballyboughlin Solar Farm in Clara, being developed by Engie Developments Ltd, secured a 14MW contract
