Murphy impresses in Raheny as Harriers shine on several fronts

Tullamore Harriers AC News

The annual Raheny 5 Mile road race was run off on Sunday. Hosted by Raheny Shamrocks AC, the 40th edition of the event attracted a sell out number of participants with over 4000 finishers. Michael Murphy was well up the field in 10th place with a solid time of 25:10 minutes.

Next for Tullamore Harriers was Killian Nolan (26.55), followed by Pauric Ennis (27.26) and John Lowry (32.54).

Michael's focus will now shift to the National Intermediate Cross Country Championships on February 11, where he is expected to be one of the favourites for the title.

AAI Games

Two Harriers athletes competed in the AAI Games in the NAI in Abbotstown. Aaron Keane competed in the 200m and ran a cracking new personal best (indoor and outdoor) of 21.64, putting him within touching distance of Gordon Kennedy's long standing outdoor club record of 21.35. Emmanuel Ilori competed in the 60m and ran a decent time of 7.25, a solid start to the year for him.

Middle distance round-up

James Dunne travelled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to race the mile at the UNM Team Open on Saturday last. Racing at 5020 feet of altitude is not easy but James really committed in his season opener and finished with a new PB of 4:01.60. This is a big step forward for the young Tullamore Harriers athlete as his previous best for the distance was 4:02.40. As with Mark Milner, James will next line out for a mile race in Boston on February 10.

Laura Mooney was in action at Boston University last weekend and really raced well to finish second in her 5000m heat in a time of 16:19.98. Laura too will be racing in Boston next weekend.

Closer to home, Chinnie Izuchukwu raced the AAI Games in Abbotstown ladt weekend. Usually a half miler his time of 4:04.19 is a new PB for 1500m. Great results all round.

Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon
