Edenderry student awarded scholarship by Dublin City University

Offaly student Lucy Bannister was presented with a scholarship award by Dublin City University at a ceremony to celebrate memorial and endowed scholarships on Wednesday, November 6.

In total, 51 students received awards named in honour of individuals and organisations who have played a leading role in the life of Dublin City University and in wider Irish society.

Lucy, currently completing a Bachelor of Education at Dublin City University, was presented with the Endowed Alumni Scholarship, established to widen access to third level education.

Speaking at the event, Declan Raftery of DCU Educational Trust commented: “Memorial and endowed scholarships make an enduring contribution to the University’s mission to transform lives and societies.

"By creating opportunities for doctoral research that tackles some of the world’s most pressing challenges, and opening a door for talented students to excel, these scholarships are supporting more DCU students to make their mark on the world. We are proud to honour those who created these scholarships, and our friends and loved ones who are remembered through them.”

The 51 scholarship recipients were selected based on different criteria, depending on the wishes of those who created the scholarship.

These include undergraduate students supported by DCU’s Access Programme, postgraduate students in the fields of cancer research, education, law and journalism, and students with outstanding sporting and academic achievements.
