Laois/Offaly carers celebrated with 'Threads of Care' exhibition in Tullamore

Laois/Offaly carers have been celebrated at the launch of the 'Threads of Care' exhibition in Tullamore Library.

The event took place on Thursday evening, 24 April, and showcases the unique felting works created by members of the Laois Offaly Carers Group.

The project was delivered through a collaboration between LOETB’s Community Education Service and Family Carers Ireland, offering carers the opportunity to explore creativity, connect with each other, and share their stories through art.

Over the course of several weeks, ten carers completed the felting course under the expert guidance of LOETB tutor Pauline McNelis.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Gillian Cunningham of LOETB, followed by heartfelt speeches from Beth Wogan, Carer Supports Manager, Family Carers Ireland, and Pauline McNelis, who spoke about the inspiration behind the work.

Joe Cunningham, Chief Executive of LOETB, officially launched the exhibition, commending the learners on their creativity, resilience, and contribution to community life.

Speaking at the event, Joe Cunningham said: "This exhibition is a testament to the strength, creativity, and caring spirit of our community. It shows what can happen when learning, artistry, and personal experience come together. We are proud to collaborate with Family Carers Ireland to support lifelong learning opportunities like this.”

Guests had the opportunity to view the stunning felt artworks, each inspired by the caring journeys of the participants, while enjoying tea, coffee, and light refreshments.

Threads of Care will remain on display at Tullamore Library for the coming weeks. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the vital role carers play in our society — and the creativity that flourishes when they are given the opportunity to express their experiences.
