Clonbollogue native Alex Dunne claimed his second F2 championship success in Imola on Sunday morning

Second F2 premier podium finish for Alex Dunne

Alex Dunne enhanced his FIA F2 championship status on Sunday morning when he claimed his second premier podium finish with an impressive grand prix success at Imola in Northern Italy.

Initially placed fifth on the grid, the Clonbollogue native executed a close to flawless performance on the Imola track, a number of crucial in race moves allowing the 18 year old to claim pole position with nine course laps remaining and ultimately, a merited victory.

It is Dunne's second success at Imola having previously achieved victory on the grand prix track as an F4 driver, Sunday's win moving him six points clear at the top of the F2 standings.

Dunne also claimed fifth place in Saturday’s Sprint Race, earning him four more points to his weekend tally.

Having achieved two victories from the opening four F2 championship rounds, the Monte Carlo grand prix race now awaits Dunne on May 25.

Should Dunne claim a hat-trick of victories on the iconic Monaco track, he will be well placed to claim overall F2 championship success and a potential dream move to the F1 ranks.
