Two Offaly musicians awarded scholarships in memory of Ashling Murphy
The Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund has awarded two fully funded scholarships to the Meitheal Summer School of Traditional Irish Music, to talented musicians, Áine Kinsella and Clíodhna Young.
Áine and Clíodhna were chosen for their passion, dedication, and exceptional performances at the 12–15-year-old Fiddle Competition at Fleadh Cheoil Uíbh Fhailí.
At Meitheal, the two girls will join a vibrant community of young trad musicians participate in a trad orchestra, have access to expert guidance, mentorship, and a variety of masterclasses, along with arrangement and composition workshops designed to both challenge and inspire them as they carry forward Ashling’s spirit and love for music.
Sharing the news, a post to the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund read: "Meitheal was a place close to Ashling’s heart—where she grew musically, made lifelong friends, and found joy in sharing her love of traditional Irish music.
"These scholarships are a meaningful way to continue Ashling’s legacy, supporting young musicians just as she was supported.
"We wish them both every success and joy on this special journey."
