New sensory space and magic table launched in Birr Library
Offaly Libraries has launched a new sensory space and magic table at Birr Library.
Launched by Offaly County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Audrey Hennessy Kennedy, a key feature of the sensory room is the new magic table, an interactive 360⁰ projection system, offering a range of sensory experiences and games designed to promote physical activity, engagement, and quality of life for individuals with sensory needs, dementia, and cognitive disabilities.
This fully portable innovation allows users to pick flowers on a table, score goals on the floor, play videos on the wall, and even watch hot air balloons float across the ceiling, creating a rich and immersive environment.
The addition of a magic table to Birr Library brings to seven the number available in libraries across the county and compliments the existing sensory Offaly collections, which includes glow cubes, lava tiles and a floating ceiling of stars.
The collections and programmes are available to support children, young adults and adults with disabilities, additional needs, and learning challenges, along with their families, educators and caregivers. All are available free of charge to anyone who lives, works or is in education in Offaly.
