Free walking tours of Tullamore on coming weekends

Historian Michael Byrne and Offaly History will lead free walking tours exploring areas of Tullamore on each of the next two weekends.

The tour this Saturday, July 5, will take place from 11am to 12.30pm.

Attendees are being asked to meet outside Offaly History Centre from 10.45am for the tour, which will focus on the Patrick Street and Church Street areas.

An outline of the tour states that it will "explore the history of these old streets dating back to the 1700s, from the military barracks of 1716 to the church of 1726, county hospital of 1788, the Methodist chapels (4) and the families and shops over 250 years".

Then, on Saturday, July 12, the tour will again take place from 11am to 12.30pm but will this time focus on the 'canal quarter', taking in Harbour Street, Store Street, St Brigid’s Place, the Harbour and O’Carroll Street.

All are welcome to take part in these free walking tours. The wearing of high-visibility clothing is being encouraged if possible.
