Join the Summer Stars Reading Adventure at Offaly Libraries!
Offaly Libraries’ Summer Stars Reading Adventure is in full swing in all our branches and continues to the end of August. This is part of a free national reading programme for children where they are invited to join the adventure and to enjoy the fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the Summer.
It is important to continue reading during the Summer months. There is a lot of research which shows that children who read over the Summer maintain their reading levels and return to school more prepared for the new school year. Reading also helps to develop creativity and the imagination. It is a fun and calming activity that will improve concentration and communication skills.
Offaly Libraries are delighted to welcome all children to join in and are very happy to work with families to encourage children to continue reading and to participate in a range of fun activities and events during the Summer.
Each participant receives an activity booklet where they can record the books they read over the Summer. Children are encouraged to continue reading throughout the programme and there will be rewards and incentives along the way, such as certificates, seeded bookmarks and canvas bags. At the end of the adventure, all children who have completed the reading log in their booklet will be invited to attend an Award Ceremony at which they will receive their own Summer Stars medal.
Library membership is free and opens a whole world of reading fun, adventure and imagination. There is something to suit all ages. Visiting the library can be a great family activity. So why not call into your local library to see what’s on offer or visit our website at www.offaly.ie/libraries .
