Tullamore Harriers to host annual Neville 10 mile race on Sunday
Hosted by Tullamore Harriers, the annual Neville 10 Mile club race takes place on Sunday morning, August 17, at 9am.
The Neville 10-mile race is a handicapped race where the runners are given a start time according to their pre-assigned handicaps.
The first runner will start at 9am sharp from the tarmac track in the Tullamore Harriers club grounds with an open roads route taking in the Charleville Road, Mucklagh village, turning at Kilsaran, returning via the town's bypass and finishing with one lap of the track.
Tullamore Harriers are expecting a large turnout to honour one "of our club's greats".
Mick was born in 1940 in Lynally, just outside Tullamore, and passed away in 2022 at the age of 81. Mick had his first introduction to athletics in the early 1950s and joined Tullamore Harriers in that year.
During his time with Tullamore Harriers, he made a significant impact on the sport of athletics, particularly in endurance running, excelling in a wide range of distances earning national titles and setting records along the way.
Mick was a remarkably talented athlete who preferred to keep a low profile and avoid the spotlight despite his remarkable achievements in athletics.
Registration for the Mick Neville 10 mile run opens at 8.15am with participants advised to wear bright clothing for visibility on the busy Tullamore roads.
